2017 Jeep Cherokee updates
2017 Jeep Cherokee updates
There are several new Jeep Cherokee updates for the 2017 model year. Most of these changes are geared towards attracting new buyers to the Jeep SUV. Primarily looking to separate the Cherokee versus the Trailhawk, Jeep is including some major Jeep Cherokee updates for the 2017 year.
According to the experts, Jeep is planning the majority of these Jeep Cherokee updates in preparation of a larger overhaul in 2018. On the surface there’s not much different in 2017 when it comes to the Jeep Cherokee. Here’s a look at the differences and similarities below.
2017 Jeep Cherokee updates and features
What’s not changed – The Jeep Cherokee returns with the standard five seat cabin layout. Also returning is the power train options in front wheel drive or all wheel drive. There are two engine choices in the four and six cylinder engines.
New trims – For the 2017 lineup, Jeep has introduced a wide range of trims. Ranging from the Overland trim, all the way down to the base model, the Jeep Cherokee is a great choice for any budget. These minor changes are in preparation of the larger, sweeping model revisions due in the 2018 model year.
Styling – There’s not much different when it comes to the 2017 Jeep Cherokee styling. The same front bumper and headlight design returns from the previous year. What is changing is that Xenon headlights are now standard for all Jeep Cherokee models other than the Sport model.
Engine options – New for 2017, the four cylinder is now standard in all models except for the upscale Overland. The 2.4 liter engine generates 184 horsepower and 117 ft lbs of torque. The four cylinder is fairly adequate despite the heavy curb weight of the Cherokee.
Power Train options – With just the nine speed automatic as the only option, the all wheel drive or front wheel drive choices are excellent choices. The front wheel drive option is standard in every version of the Jeep Cherokee outside of the Trailhawk.
Part of the Jeep Cherokee updates for 2017 include the Jeep Active Drive I system which is now optional on Sport, Latitude, and Limited models.
Flagship trims – Added in the 2016 model year, the Overland model returns again for 2017. Not much has changed when it comes to Jeep Cherokee updates for the top of the line model however. Returning for 2017 is the Overland interior upgrades and premium audio options..

As the fully loaded Jeep Cherokee, the Overland combines the best in interior and exterior options and upgrades. The Overland also comes with Jeep’s full infotainment suite, including embedded navigation an a large 8.4-inch touchscreen monitor.
Other upgrades to the Cherokee are minor, from small interior accents and styling cues. These Jeep Cherokee updates may be minor but they don’t take away from the overall value of this Jeep SUV. For those looking for superior luxury SUV performance, the Jeep Cherokee is an excellent choice for new car shoppers.
